Jesus Christ the Fiery Serpent

Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

ZECHARIAH

The central theme of Zechariah’s prophecy is God's temple. Acknowledge this theme and the book is much easier to understand. Also, to understand this book, you must realize that the prophecy in it is dual. It was delivered to ancient Judah at the time of the construction of the second temple; however, God’s message through Zechariah could not be understood until our time—today!

Matt.{14:58} We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

God is working out His great master plan. That plan involves both the world and the Church. When we look at the plan of God operating in our day, we must realize that the events happening within God’s temple—the Church—are more important to God than events happening within the world. God’s main concern right now is with His Church, the people who are striving and struggling to do God’s Work and enter into His Family. Zechariah’s prophecy does deal with the destruction of Israel, but the book’s prophecies have more to do with building character than with destruction. This prophecy reveals that in this end time, some of God’s people are failing to build the character that God wants them to build! Are we building godly character in our lives? Zechariah holds a crucial message for all of God’s true Church today.

In chapter one, we are introduced to the Angel of Lord, who intercedes on the behalf Jerusalem and Judah (1:12). The people of the land are called to repent and not imitate the ways of the their forefathers who the Lord rejected from the land. In chapter one we see the Lord’s intervention against the Gentile powers, the nations, who scatter the inhabitants of Jerusalem, God however intervenes sending His carpenters (craftsmen) against the nations, who oppose His people.

Jehovah is renowned or remembered. (1.) A prophet of Judah, the eleventh of the twelve minor prophets. Like Ezekiel, he was of priestly extraction. He describes himself (1:1) as "the son of Berechiah." In Ezra 5:1 and 6:14 he is called "the son of Iddo," who was properly his grandfather. His prophetical career began in the second year of Darius (520 B.C.), about sixteen years after the return of the first company from exile. He was contemporary with Haggai (Ezra 5:1). His book consists of two distinct parts, (1) chapters 1 to 8, inclusive, and (2) 9 to the end. It begins with a preface (1:1-6), which recalls the nation's past history, for the purpose of presenting a solemn warning to the present generation. Then follows a series of eight visions (1:7-6:8), succeeding one another in one night, which may be regarded as a symbolical history of Israel, intended to furnish consolation to the returned exiles and stir up hope in their minds. The symbolical action, the crowning of Joshua (6:9-15), describes how the kingdoms of the world become the kingdom of God's Christ. Chapters 7 and 8, delivered two years later, are an answer to the question whether the days of mourning for the destruction of the city should be any longer kept, and an encouraging address to the people, assuring them of God's presence and blessing. The second part of the book (ch. 9-14) bears no date. It is probable that a considerable interval separates it from the first part. It consists of two burdens. The first burden (ch. 9-11) gives an outline of the course of God's providential dealings with his people down to the time of the Advent. The second burden (ch. 12-14) points out the glories that await Israel in "the latter day", the final conflict and triumph of God's kingdom.

This is the meaning of “horns” in verse 18, they describe the kingdoms, which scattered Israel, Judah and Jerusalem. The number represents either the four specific kingdoms or totality of Gentile power.

Zechariah

ZachariahZecharah calls upon Judah to repent-He is shown by visions that the cities of Judah and the Temple will be rebult.

{1:1}In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

God gave a prophetic blueprint of eternity when He gave instruction concerning the celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles. In Leviticus 23:33-34, 36 it is written: "And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the Lord. Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: on the eighth day shall be a holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord: it is a solemn assembly..."

Mark{6:7} And he called [unto him] the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two;and gave them power over unclean spirits; Two in the Bible equals the church. God here is talking about the eternity of the church.!

Genesis{41:32} And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; [it is] because the thing [is] established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

{1:2} The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers.

Matt.{23:30} And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. {23:31} Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. {23:32} Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. {23:33} [Ye] serpents, [ye] generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Zechariah is a following of the church through out the bible unto eternity.

{1:3} Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

{4:8} Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [ye] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [ye] double minded. {4:9} Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and [your] joy to heaviness. {4:10} Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. Again Zechariah is a picture of the events through out the whole Bible.

{1:4} Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and [from] your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the LORD.

{1:5} Your fathers, where [are] they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?

{1:6} But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.

{1:7} Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which [is] the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

Sebat the eleventh month of the Hebrew year, extending from the new moon of February to that of March (from Easton's Bible Dictionary, PC Study Bible formatted electronic database Copyright © 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. All rights reserved.)

{1:8} I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that [were] in the bottom; and behind him [were there] red horses, speckled, and white. ( judgement )

NIGHT (See DAY). Figuratively: (1) the time of distress (Isa 21:12). (2) Death, the time when life's day is over (John 9:4). (3) Children of night, i.e. dark deeds, filthiness, which shuns daylight (1 Thess 5:5). (4) The present life, compared with the believer's bright life to come (Rom 13:12).

The Second Seal opened and revealed! ( COME AND SEE ) Rev.{6:3} And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. {6:4} And there went out another horse [that was] red: and [power] was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. There went out another horse [that was] red: Strong 4450 Red from 4442 fire-like flame-color, RED ( NOTE: SEE MY STUDY ON WHO IS FIERY SERPENT ) THIS IS HE. OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. MATTHEW{10:34} Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. {10:35} For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. {10:36} And a man’s foes [shall be] they of his own household. The man on the red Horse is our Lord Jesus Christ and he stood amoung the believers ( The Church )

Isaiah{63:1} Who [is] this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this [that is] glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. {63:2} Wherefore [art thou] red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? {63:3} I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people [there was] none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. {63:4} For the day of vengeance [is] in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. {63:5} And I looked, and [there was] none to help; and I wondered that [there was] none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. {63:6} And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

{1:1} Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. {1:2} But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. {1:3} And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Believers are likened to trees. The man riding a red horse, was standing amoung the believers. (Rev.1:13)

{1:9} Then said I, O my lord, what [are] these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these [be. ]

{1:10} And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These [are they] whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.

Job{2:1} Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD. {2:2} And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. The sons of God are the body of Christ the true believers. In This verse Satan has infiltrated the church. Romans{8:19} For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

{1:11} And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

{1:12} Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?

{1:13} And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me [with] good words [and] comfortable words.

{1:14} So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

{1:15} And I am very sore displeased with the heathen [that are] at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

{1:16} Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.

{1:17} Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.

{1:18} Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.

{17:12} And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

{1:19} And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What [be] these? And he answered me, These [are] the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.

{1:20} And the LORD shewed me four carpenters.

{1:21} Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These [are] the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up [their] horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.

{2:1} I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

Revelation{21:15} And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. {21:16} And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. {21:17} And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred [and] forty [and] four cubits,

{2:2} Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what [is] the breadth thereof, and what [is] the length thereof.

{2:3} And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

{2:4} And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited [as] towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

{2:5} For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

Pslams{48:3} God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

{2:6} Ho, ho, [come forth,] and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.

{2:7} Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest [with] the daughter of Babylon.

{2:8} For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

{2:9} For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.

{2:10} Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.

{2:11} And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

{2:12} And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

{2:13} Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

{3:4} And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

{3:5} And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.

{3:6} And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,

{3:7} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.

Galatians {3:10} For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. {3:11} But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, [it is] evident: for, The just shall live by faith. {3:12} And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. {3:13} Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree: ( The curse is the Law )

{5:4} I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

Proverbs{3:33} The curse of the LORD [is] in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

{5:5} Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what [is] this that goeth forth.

{5:6} And I said, What [is] it? And he said, This [is] an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This [is] their resemblance through all the earth.

The Hebrew word "ephah" (איפה) means a particular measure for grain, as used in offering for sin.

{5:7} And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this [is] a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.

{5:8} And he said, This [is] wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.

imprisoned in the ephah may signify, that there should be a long captivity.

{5:9} Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind [was] in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.

{5:10} Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?

{5:11} And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

Shinar "Shumir;" probably identical with Babylonia or Southern Mesopotamia

Zac.Zechariah crowns Joshua, the high priest, in similitude of Christ, the BRANCH, who shall come-Christ shall be a priest upon the throne of DAVID forever.

{6:1} And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains [were] mountains of brass. ( Mountain are Nations ) (Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven )

Well Zechariah sees the four chariots, they come out from the mountains and the mountains are mountains of brass or bronze. Now let’s, for just a moment, go back in our Bible and ask ourselves the question, “What does the prophet mean when he speaks of mountains of brass or bronze?” Now those of you who have not been here with me all along, you may justly criticize me at this point and say, “Well Joseph, is not giving us any clues as to how he arrives at the interpretation of these things.”

But those of you who were at the beginning will remember that I gave you some principles for the understanding of symbolic, or apocalyptic language. And here we have the apocalyptic type of literature, and we are following these principles by looking in divine revelation for help with regard to the meaning.

Fortunately, in the case of the mountains of brass or bronze, there is little doubt of its significance. In the tabernacle, for example, the place where the animals were slain was called the brazen altar, or the brass altar. It was the place of judgment. It was the place where the animal was slain, in order that the offerer might be accepted before God. And then you will remember that later on, when the children of Israel were in the wilderness, and God sent fiery serpents among the people because they had disobeyed him, he gave Moses a remedy. And the remedy was the serpent of brass, or the serpent of bronze.

And when the children of Israel were bitten by one of the venomous reptiles, they were told that if they would simply look at the serpent of brass, they would be healed. Now the Lord Jesus, many hundreds of years later, speaking with Nicodemus, that great religious leader who had not been born again, told Nicodemus, “As Moses lifted up the serpent (the serpent of brass; the serpent of bronze) in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

The physical life of the Old Testament illustrated the spiritual life that is available through the brazen serpent, our Lord Jesus Christ. He calls himself the brazen serpent because it was on Calvary’s cross that he bore the judgment for our sins. He was the serpent of brass when he cried out, “My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?” And so, our Lord Jesus is the one of whom Paul wrote when he said, “He hath made him to be sin for us (that is our Lord Jesus as the brazen serpent) that we might become the righteousness of God in him, through the fact that he bore our judgment.”

Zechariah sees the four chariots coming out from the mountains, and the mountains are mountains of bronze, this is just his way of saying further, that the warfare that is signified by the chariots, is warfare in judgment. And so, we can expect that this vision will have something to do with judgment.

That is shall have to do with warfare and destruction and catastrophe. That, I think, is its primary meaning, regardless of what we may see in the details. Zechariah then goes on to describe the kinds of chariots that he saw coming out. He saw one chariot that was pulled by red horses. Now in the Book of Revelation, in the 6th chapter, it’s very striking that these very words are used. A rider comes out on a red horse.

A rider comes out on a white horse. A rider comes out on a black horse. And a rider comes out on a pale green horse. Now, in that respect, that differs from Zechariah, who describes a chariot that comes out with dapple and bay horses. But he says the first chariot was pulled by red horses, and the chariot was pulled by black horses, and the third chariot was pulled by white horses, and the fourth chariot was pulled by grizzled and bay horses.

Now I think that the symbols of each of these are relatively unimportant for us. All of them speak of judgment in various ways. The black of famine, the red of bloodshed, the white of victory and triumph (but victory and triumph by others instead of those who are involved), and finally the grizzled and bay.

Now since this is somewhat unique, let me say just a word about it. The first thing is, what in the world does this word “grizzled” really mean? We don’t use that very much anymore. It’s true, we speak about a grizzly bear, but what does grizzled really mean? You know, I just wanted to be sure about this, and so I took my Oxford Dictionary and I opened it up. And I must say I was a little nonplussed, because I read that grizzled means “a gray-haired old man.” And I was very disconcerted to realize that I am grizzled. [Laughter] Now how would you feel, if you read in a dictionary that you were grizzled? Now that would be a very discouraging thing, but nevertheless, that is exactly what I am according to this text of Scripture. I am a grizzled old man.

And so the grizzled horses, I’m kind of attached to, as a result of this. Now this fourth chariot, it is said, had two types of horses pulling it. Grizzled and bay. Now bay is a word which means strong, in Hebrew, so let’s call them the gray-haired and strong horses. And that was a little comforting because it seemed to suggest that though they were grizzled, they also were strong. And perhaps that pertains to me too. No, it could not, really.

Well at this point Zechariah is very much interested. You would be too; you would ask a lot of questions. And the way to learn is to ask questions. I think that’s a principle that we do find here. When Zechariah didn’t know anything he didn’t hesitate to ask. And so he said to the angel who talked with him, “What are these, my Lord?” He’s especially interested in these chariots and what they mean, for that is the emphasis of the word “these.” Now of course it’s nice to have an angel handy in order to interpret the word. I have an angel in my house, but she’s not always as good as the interpreting angel in interpreting the word. She’s very good at criticizing interpretations, [Laughter] but she is not very good in making interpretations, at least authoritative interpretations.

You know I have some friends who have the surprising and very strange interpretation, that the angels of the letters of the Book of Revelation, contrary to all of the usage in the book, refer to pastors in churches. And I’ve always thought that was the strangest interpretation, because if anyone in a local church is not an angel, it surely is a pastor. A pastor-teacher. In fact, no teacher that I know of is an angel. But aside from all of these things, and I don’t want to get into that right now, it’s obvious that the things that come from the pulpit and the interpretations that come from the pulpit, prove that they are no angels. So, it’s good to have an interpreting angel at hand who can give you an authoritative interpretation. They’re not always so clear, because you know in the word of God, you’ve got to spend some time in the study of it. You’re not going to find that everything is going to fall into your lap.

I want to tell you something, I’ve worked over this vision for many years. In fact I want to tell you something right now, because I think it will fit. I went back to some notes of mine . And so I went back to my notes thinking, “Perhaps there is some light in these old notes.” And do you know what I found in my notes, I found a little notation, . These are the words that I found in my notes. [Laughter] It’s not an easy vision to interpret.

So let’s look now, at his interpretation. In the 5th verse the angel says, “Zechariah, I want you first of all to know that these are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.” This is not the first time that reference is made, in the Bible, to four spirits of the heavens. You who study the word of God know that in the 7th chapter of the Book of Daniel, we have a similar expression. Daniel sees the four spirits of the heavens go out, and he sees them work in the Mediterranean area, and out of the Mediterranean Sea, there arise four great beasts. The four great beasts are representative of the Babylonian, the Medo-Persian, the Grecian, and the Roman empires, down to the end of time. He speaks about the lion of Babylonia. He speaks about the bear of Medo-Persia, that arouse with three ribs in its mouth. He speaks about the leopard of Greece. And finally the fourth animal is so terrible that he can only describe it as being strong, exceedingly (notice the word strong), and diverse from all the others. Perhaps if Zechariah had been there he might have said, “That animal looks grizzled to me.” But at any rate, the four winds of heaven are apparently four angelic beings, which God uses in his conduct of the affairs of men. And so he says now, “These four chariots are the four winds of the heavens which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth. And Zechariah, to give you further details, the black horses, which are there, go forth into the north country.”

And the first thing you notice, of course, is “Well, where are the red?” Zechariah saw some chariots that were driven by red horses, or pulled by red horses. Where are they? Perhaps the reason for their omission, as students have noted, is because at this time Babylonia had already been destroyed, and there is no need for them to be mentioned now, and the red horses, or that chariot, signified God’s destruction of that great power. Let’s let it go, you may think I’m a little goofy here, but at least that satisfies me as to why the red horses are omitted in the further interpretation. He says, “The black horses, which are there, go forth into the north country.” And apparently, he refers here to the destruction of Medo-Persia, which shall soon come. And further, the white go forth after them. And since the Grecian empire ultimately included all of that empire, and were also to the north of Palestine, perhaps the reference here is to the destruction of the Grecian power. And finally he says, “And the dappled (or grizzled) go forth toward the south country.” The south country is Egypt. And as you study history, you will discover that the place where Israel first came into contact with Rome, was in Egypt. And furthermore, it was in Egypt that Rome first began its destruction of the Macedonian power. So, perhaps the reference here is to the power that goes forth to destroy the Romans. But he also seems to distinguish the grizzled and the strong, as if to suggest, in this last destruction of the government of Rome, or the empire of Rome, there are two aspects.

Now we know from the study of the Bible, that Rome was the world empire at the time that our Lord lived. We also believe, from the study of the prophetic word with the light that we have (and we do not have final light), that Rome shall, in some way, be revived, be restored to authority. That the headquarters of that kingdom shall exist in Babylon, as I have been trying to teach you, contrary to the teaching of some theologians, but I think it’s plainly the teaching of the word of God, and we saw it again in the 5th chapter of the Book of Zechariah. All you have to do is to look at the 17th and 18th of Revelation to realize it is true. But that the man who rules, or the Anti-Christ, will be a Roman. That is, from the Roman empire. But his capital shall be in Babylon. It is very striking that Babylon was the capital of several of these empires, and if you’ll remember, Alexander even wanted to make Babylon the capital of his, but he was prevented by his untimely death. So it seems to me that what Zechariah is told, to sum it up, is that God has designated his angelic authorities to go forth and to destroy the successive world empires that shall arise upon the earth, until finally, at the destruction of the last one, our Lord Jesus Christ shall come and shall establish the kingdom of God upon the earth.

That, in a nutshell, is the meaning of this last of the visions. It seems to comprehend, then, the whole program of God’s working among the nations. His working during the times of the gentiles, when the gentiles, instead of the Jews, have authority over the face of the earth. So these eight night visions are designed to portray Israel’s future, from the day of Cyrus, which, by the way, means “lord,” to the day of the greater than Cyrus, our Lord Jesus Christ. I think that the things that we see today, that are transpiring upon the earth, are political changes which are very significant. We have been talking about them, particularly the things that are happening in the near east. Isn’t it striking that today we have so much stress upon a part of the world which was relatively insignificant twenty years ago

{6:2} In the first chariot [were] red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;

Rev.{6:3} And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. ( JUDGEMENT )

Revelation{6:5} And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. {6:6} And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and [see] thou hurt not the oil and the wine. A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; Amos:{8:11} Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: {8:12} And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find [it. ]{8:13} In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst. Leviticus 26:25 And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of [my] covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. {26:26} [And] when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver [you] your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

{6:3} And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses.

Rev {6:1} And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. {6:2} And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. JOB{40:9} Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? Thunder, God's voice is coming from one of the four beasts, because they are a correlation of him. COME AND SEE. And I saw, and behold a white horse: WHITE a symbol of purity. Rev.{3:18} I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and [that] the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. A HORSE: always referred to in the Bible as warlike operations.

Revelation{6:7} And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. {6:8} And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

{6:4} Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What [are] these, my lord?

{6:5} And the angel answered and said unto me, These [are] the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.

{6:6} The black horses which [are] therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country.

{6:7} And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.

{6:8} Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.

{6:9} And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

{6:10} Take of [them of] the captivity, [even] of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah;

{6:11} Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set [them] upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;

{6:12} And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name [is] The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:

Isaiah{32:2} And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

John{19:5} Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And [Pilate] saith unto them, Behold the man!

Jeremiah{33:15} In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.

John{2:19} Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. {2:20} Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? {2:21} But he spake of the temple of his body.

{6:13} Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

{6:14} And the crowns shall be to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of the LORD.

{6:15} And they [that are] far off shall come and build in the temple of the LORD, and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. And [this] shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.

Zac.The LORD reproves hypocrisy He calls upon the people to show mercy and compassion and live Godly lives.

{7:1} And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, [that] the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth [day] of the ninth month, [even] in Chisleu;

{7:2} When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regem-melech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,

{7:3} [And] to speak unto the priests which [were] in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

{7:4} Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,

{7:5} Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh [month,] even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, [even] to me?

{7:6} And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat [for yourselves,] and drink [for yourselves? ]

{7:7} [Should ye] not [hear] the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when [men] inhabited the south and the plain?

{7:8} And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying,

{7:9} Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:

{7:10} And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

{7:11} But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

{7:12} Yea, they made their hearts [as] an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

{7:13} Therefore it is come to pass, [that] as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:

{7:14} But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

Zac.In the last Days, Jerusalem shall be restored. Judah shall be gathered, and the Lord will bless his people beyond anything of the past.

{8:1} Again the word of the LORD of hosts came [to me,] saying,

{8:2} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury.

{8:3} Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. ( His Kingdom )

{8:4} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.

{8:5} And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

{8:6} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.

{8:7} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;

{8:8} And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

{8:9} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which [were] in the day [that] the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.

{8:10} For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither [was there any] peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour.

{8:11} But now I [will] not [be] unto the residue of this people as in the former days, saith the LORD of hosts.

{8:12} For the seed [shall be] prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these [things. ]

{8:13} And it shall come to pass, [that] as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, [but] let your hands be strong.

{8:14} For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not:

{8:15} So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.

{8:16} These [are] the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:

{8:17} And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these [are things] that I hate, saith the LORD.

{8:18} And the word of the LORD of hosts came unto me, saying,

{8:19} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth [month,] and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.

{8:20} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; [It shall] yet [come to pass,] that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities:

{8:21} And the inhabitants of one [city] shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also.

{8:22} Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.

{8:23} Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days [it shall come to pass,] that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard [that] God [is] with you.

Zac.Zechariah speaks Messianically:Messiah shall come, having salvation, lowly, and riding upon an ass. He shall free the prisoners from the pit. Judah and Ephraim are instruments of the Lord.

{9:1} The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus [shall be] the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, [shall be] toward the LORD.

{9:2} And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very wise.

{9:3} And Tyrus did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.

{9:4} Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.

{9:5} Ashkelon shall see [it,] and fear; Gaza also [shall see it,] and be very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

{9:6} And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

{9:7} And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he that remaineth, even he, [shall be] for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

{9:8} And I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

{9:9} Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he [is] just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

{9:10} And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion [shall be] from sea [even] to sea, and from river [even] to the ends of the earth.

{9:11} As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein [is] no water. {9:12} Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare [that] I will render double unto thee;

c {9:13} When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised up thy sons, O Zion, against thy sons, O Greece, and made thee as the sword of a mighty man.

{9:14} And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the LORD GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.

{9:15} The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, [and] make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, [and] as the corners of the altar.

{9:16} And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they [shall be as] the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign upon his land.

{9:17} For how great [is] his goodness, and how great [is] his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.

Zac.Judah and Joseph shall be sown amoung the people in far countries. The Lord will hiss for them and gather them and redeem them.

{10:1} Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; [so] the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.

Hosea{6:3} Then shall we know, [if] we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter [and] former rain unto the earth.

Ps 72:6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.KJV

{10:2} For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, King James Bible Zechariah Page 548 because [there was] no shepherd.

{10:3} Mine anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the LORD of hosts hath visited his flock the house of Judah, and hath made them as his goodly horse in the battle.

{10:4} Out of him came forth the corner, out of him the nail, out of him the battle bow, out of him every oppressor together.

{10:5} And they shall be as mighty [men,] which tread down [their enemies] in the mire of the streets in the battle: and they shall fight, because the LORD [is] with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.

{10:6} And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them; for I have mercy upon them: and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I [am] the LORD their God, and will hear them.

{10:7} And [they of] Ephraim shall be like a mighty [man,] and their heart shall rejoice as through wine: yea, their children shall see [it,] and be glad; their heart shall rejoice in the LORD.

{10:8} I will hiss for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them: and they shall increase as they have increased.

{10:9} And I will sow them among the people: and they shall remember me in far countries; and they shall live with their children, and turn again.

{10:10} I will bring them again also out of the land of Egypt, and gather them out of Assyria; and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon; and [place] shall not be found for them.

{10:11} And he shall pass through the sea with affliction, and shall smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart away.

{10:12} And I will strengthen them in the LORD; and they shall walk up and down in his name, saith the LORD.

Zac.Zechariah speaks Messianically: Messiah shall be betrayed for thirty pieces of silver. It shall be cast to the potter in the house of the Lord.

{11:1} Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour thy cedars.

{11:2} Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.

{11:3} [There is] a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is spoiled: a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is spoiled.

{11:4} Thus saith the LORD my God; Feed the flock of the slaughter;

{11:5} Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed [be] the LORD; for I am rich: and their own shepherds pity them not.

{11:6} For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour’s hand, and into the hand of his king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver [them. ]

{11:7} And I will feed the flock of slaughter, [even] you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.

{11:8} Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

{11:9} Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.

{11:10} And I took my staff, [even] Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.

{11:11} And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it [was] the word of the LORD.

{11:12} And I said unto them, If ye think good, give [me] my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty [pieces] of silver.

{11:13} And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty [pieces] of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.

{11:14} Then I cut asunder mine other staff, [even] Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

{11:15} And the LORD said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.

{11:16} For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, [which] shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.

{11:17} Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword [shall be] upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

Zac.In the final great war, all nations shall be engaged at Jerusalem but the Lord shall defend His people. Then the Jews shall look upon Jesus whom they crucified, and there shall be great mourning.

{12:1} The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.

{12:2} Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah [and] against Jerusalem.

{12:3} And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

{12:4} In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.

{12:5} And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem [shall be] my strength in the LORD of hosts their God.

{12:6} In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, [even] in Jerusalem.

{12:7} The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify [themselves] against Judah.

{12:8} In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David [shall be] as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.

{12:9} And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

{12:10} And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for [his] only [son,] and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for [his] firstborn.

2 Samuel 7:8 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel: {7:9} And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great [men] that [are] in the earth. {7:10} Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime, {7:11} And as since the time that I commanded judges [to be] over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house. {7:12} And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. {7:13} He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. {7:14} I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: {7:15} But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took [it] from Saul, whom I put away before thee. {7:16} And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever ( Isreal wanted a King like other nations, so God gave them Saul. But in the End of Days God shall re-establish His Kingdom and put Jesus Christ as King on "The Throne of David." ) THE KEY OF DAVID!

Key of David
The key of David.

{12:11} In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.

{12:12} And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;

{12:13} The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart;

{12:14} All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.

Zac.The Jews shall gain forgiveness at the Second Coming. They shall ask Jesus: What are these wounds in thine hands? The remnant, tried and refined, shall be His people.

{13:1} In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness. King James Bible Zechariah Page 549

{13:2} And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, [that] I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

{13:3} And it shall come to pass, [that] when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth.

{13:4} And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the prophets shall be ashamed every one of his vision, when he hath prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to deceive:

{13:5} But he shall say, I [am] no prophet, I [am] an husbandman; for man taught me to keep cattle from my youth.

{13:6} And [one] shall say unto him, What [are] these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, [Those] with which I was wounded [in] the house of my friends.

{13:7} Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man [that is] my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

{13:8} And it shall come to pass, [that] in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off [and] die; but the third shall be left therein.

{13:9} And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It [is] my people: and they shall say, The LORD [is] my God.

Zac.At His Second Coming the Lord shall fight for Israel. His feet shall stand upon the Mount of Olives. He shall be King over all the earth. Plagues shall destroy the wicked.

{14:1} Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.

Isaiah{13:6} Howl ye; for the day of the LORD [is] at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

{14:2} For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

Jeremiah{34:1} The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,

Zechariah 14:2 [I Will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle] This is a feature which belongs to the end. It had been dwelt upon by Joel; (Joel 3:2-9,11); Ezekiel spoke of the "many nations" (Ezek 38:6,15,22) which should come under Gog. John foretells of an universal strife at the end, when "The spirits of devils, working miracles, go forth unto the king; of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty" (Rev 16:14); and "Satan shall be loosed out of his prison and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints round about, and the beloved city" (Rev 20:7-9). Since no creature can do aught but what God wills, and, in his phrensy against God's people, is but His instrument, "to try them and to purge and to make white to the time of the end" (Dan 11:35; 12:10); and the strength of body or intellect, which is abused against His law, He continuously in the order of nature supplies, God may be said to do what Satan does against Him. Satan, in his blind fury, crowns martyrs, fills the thrones of heaven, works, against his will, the All-wise Will of God.

[And the houses rifled, and the women ...] The horrors of pagan war repeat themselves through people's ever-recurring passions. What was foretold as to Babylon is repeated in the same words as to the Church of God. Seemingly "all things" come "alike to all (Eccl 9:2): there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean and to the unclean: to him that sacrificeth and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner." The outward event is the same, the hidden part is known to God alone. "And the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city," unlike the lot of the earthly Jerusalem, in the destruction both by Nebuchadnezzar (which was past) and the Romans (see at Mic 3:12, pp. 46-50). At the first, "Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, carried away the rest of the people left in the city, and the fugitives that fell away to the king of Babylon, with the remnant of the multitude" (2 Kings 25:11), so that Jeremiah mourned over it, "Because of the mountain of Zion which is desolate, foxes walk" (habitually) "upon it" (Lam 5:18). The Romans (see at pp. 46,47) "effaced the city." Now "a remnant is not cut off," because "for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened" (Matt 24:32); for our Lord had said, that "the gates of hell should not prevail against" His Church (Matt 16:18).

{14:3} Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

Danel{2:35} Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. {2:36} This [is] the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. {2:37} Thou, O king, [art] a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. {2:38} And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou [art] this head of gold. {2:39} And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. {2:40} And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all [things:] and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. {2:41} And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. {2:42} And [as] the toes of the feet [were] part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. {2:43} And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. {2:44} And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, [but] it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. {2:45} Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

{14:4} And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which [is] before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, [and there shall be] a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

Rev.1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. Oliver Trees are the believers, (Ps 1 )The oil from the Olive is the gospel. The Gospel comes fort from the HOLY SPIRIT. The Holy Spirit is the Light of the Gospel, a Candlestick.

{14:5} And ye shall flee [to] the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, [and] all the saints with thee.

The Feast of Tabernacles - the first 1,000 years after The Return of Christ. (Leviticus 23:33-36, Revelation 20:2-4)(the eight Day is eternity)

{14:6} And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the light shall not be clear, [nor] dark:

{14:7} But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, [that] at evening time it shall be light.

Isaiah{60:19} The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.

Revelation{21:23} And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb [is] the light thereof.

{14:8} And it shall be in that day, [that] living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.

{14:9} And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

{14:10} All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and [from] the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses.

{14:11} And [men] shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

{14:12} And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

{14:13} And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

{14:14} And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.

{14:15} And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.

{14:16} And it shall come to pass, [that] every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

A Feast for all People Tabernacles is unique in that the Gentile nations were invited to come up to Jerusalem along with the Jewish people to worship the Lord at this "appointed time". The Lord told Moses to father all men, women and children, along with the foreigners in their land, so they can learn to fear the Lord (Deut. 31:12). When Solomon later dedicated the Temple at Sukkot, he asked the Lord to hear the prayers of any foreigners that would come there to pray (2 Chronicles 6:32-33). It may surprise some, but Jesus kept the Feast of Tabernacles as well. On the last "great day of the feast", he stood in the Temple and cried out: "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37-38)

And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field .

{14:17} And it shall be, [that] whoso will not come up of [all] the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.

Isaiah{60:12} For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, [those] nations shall be utterly wasted.

Romans{14:10} But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. {14:11} For it is written, [As] I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Revelation {11:6} These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

{14:18} And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that [have] no [rain;] there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

{14:19} This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Isaaih {66:24} And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

{14:20} In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD’S house shall be like the bowls before the altar.

Exodus {28:33} And [beneath] upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates [of] blue, and [of] purple, and [of] scarlet, round about the hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about: {28:34} A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about. {28:35} And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy [place] before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he die not.{28:36} And thou shalt make a plate [of] pure gold, and grave upon it, [like] the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

{14:21} Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts
