Jesus Christ the Fiery Serpent

Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

IIPeter {1:19} We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

A staggering turn in world events is due to erupt in the next few years. It will involve violently the United States, Britain, Western Europe, the Middle East. It’s already rather late for the free world to come awake to the real meaning behind current world events! Why do not the world’s leaders see what is coming? Why are the world’s best minds unseeing—the heads of state, scientists, educators, editors, news analysts, bankers, industrialists, leaders in business and commerce? They are totally unaware! Why?

Isaiah {59:8} The way of peace they know not; and [there is] no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.

Romans {3:17} And the way of peace have they not known:

This world is giving assent to, and conferring civilization’s acceptance on, the ways that are the causes of all the world’s ills. And now we are fast approaching the final grand smash explosion that is going to stagger the mind of man beyond the bounds of sanity. Forces are at work today on plans, programs, conspiracies, movements that soon will erupt into a world explosion of violence and chaos such as never happened before, and never will again. Men today are tampering with forces of nature they lack the prudence, knowledge, ability and wisdom to control.

Unreal though it may seem to those steeped in modern educational deceptions, some 2,500 years ago the Supreme Power of the universe inspired a man named Isaiah to quote Him, saying: “… I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand …” (Isaiah 46:9-10). The great world powers are formulating their policies—laying their plans. But the next few years will see astounding events explode in a manner very different than the nations plan!

Winston Churchill declared before the United States Congress: “He must indeed have a blind soul who cannot see that some great purpose and design is being worked out here below of which we have the honor to be the faithful servants.” But he did not understand that purpose! That great purpose long ago was master-planned by the Master Mind of the universe.

There Is Purpose It is true, though almost totally unrealized: Mankind was put on this Earth for a purpose! And the Maker of mankind sent along with the human product of His making an Instruction Book to reveal that purpose and to guide man in happily, enjoyably fulfilling it. But the human race has rejected the revelation and the guidance and has preferred to stumble on in the darkness of its own futile reasonings.

Why This Ignorance

Now see why heads of state, news analysts, and the great minds of our time do not comprehend the real meaning of world events as they are shaping up right now. A rational and right knowledge of this great purpose, of the Creator’s master plan, of where in the progression of those foreordained events we stand today, and of major happenings prophesied yet to occur—this knowledge is

1The intent of the book of Revelation is provided by the very first word of the first verse: ʼΑποκάλυψις [Apokalypsis] 1 which Strong defines as “1 a laying bare, making naked. 2 a disclosure of truth, instruction. 2A concerning things before unknown. 2B used of events by which things or states or persons hitherto withdrawn from view are made visible to all. 3 manifestation, appearance.”

2 The emphasis shared by all these varied meanings is making known or revealing things which previously were not known and is rendered by our English word revelation which has a similar meaning: “1.a. The act of revealing or disclosing. b. Something revealed, especially a dramatic disclosure of something not previously known or realized.”

3 That it is God’s intent to reveal information is made plain later in the same verse where it is said that God gave the Revelation to Jesus “to show His servants.” Clearly, the book of Revelation is not meant to obscure, but to reveal! Yet many would admit to finding the last book of the Bible difficult to understand, even puzzling—almost as if written to frustrate the very goal stated in the first verse.

4 It is our belief that this tension between God’s desire to reveal and the fact that many are unable to understand the book of Revelation stems from a principle which Jesus spoke about. Like many of Jesus’ teachings, it is a disturbing teaching which is very important to grasp. After Jesus had been rejected by the religious leaders of the Jews, Matthew records: On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying. . . (Mtt. Mat. 13:1-3) This is the first mention of the word “parable” by Matthew and underscores an essential shift in the teaching ministry of Jesus.

5 Previously, Jesus had not relied heavily upon the use of parables for teaching. Matthew identifies this shift for the reader:

All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them (Mtt. Mat. 13:34) [emphasis added]

At first, one might be tempted to interpret this change in teaching style to Jesus’ desire to impart deep truths through simple illustrations. Such an understanding is partly true, but there is another more ominous aspect of the use of parables which is more germane to our topic at hand—understanding the book of Revelation. Toussaint explains:

According to the etymology of the word “parable” παραβολή [parabolē] is the act of placing one thing beside another so that a comparison may be made between them. As a result the word came to mean a comparison, illustration, or figure. [Henry Barkclay Swete, The Parables of the Kingdom , p. 1.] . . . The key to the purpose of these parables is found in the Lord’s own explanation (Mtt. Mat. 13:11-18). He says that He uses parables at this juncture for two purposes—to reveal truth and to conceal it. To the ones who accept the Messiah the truth and interpretation of the parables is revealed (Mtt. Mat. 11:25-26; Mat. 13:11-16). On the other hand, to those who have hardened their hearts the truth is veiled by the parables (Mtt. Mat. 11:25-26; Mat. 13:11-15). [emphasis added]

6 Here then is a principle which all who seek to understand God’s Word must come to grips with: the Word of God is like a two-sided coin. One side reveals His truth to those who seek Him. The other side hides that same truth from those who have hardened their heart against Him. Jesus Himself explained it best: He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, and seeing you will see and not perceive.’ ” (Mtt. Mat. 13:11-14 cf. Isa. Isa. 6:9-10)

Prophecy Only Understood by Christ’s Servants

Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 are parallel accounts of what is called The Olivet Prophecy. This all-important prophecy works in combination with the books of Revelation and Daniel. It puts in sequence events that transcend the entire period from Christ’s First Coming until His Return, almost 2,000 years later.

Most have not understood the events of this prophecy because they do not know the keys to unlocking it—and they do not under- stand that Christ spoke it “privately” to only His disciples—“His servants.”

This must be understood because it identifies who are and are not able to understand what lies ahead for the world! Matthew uses the most detail, so we will look there, where the prophecy picks up in verse 3.

Notice: “And as He sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the world [age]?”

Verses 4-15 follow with Christ’s list of a whole series of events, which occur sequentially until just prior to His Return. Verse 15 concludes with a reference to “Daniel the prophet” and “whoso reads, let him understand.” Of course, most today do not—and will not—understand the shocking crush of events soon to smash into civilization.

Here is why. God’s servants obey Him (Acts 5:32). Understanding flows directly from obedience to God: “The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do His commandments (Psa. 111:10). All who yield themselves in obedience to God will be able to understand all prophecies to be fulfilled in the last days!

Almost everyone in professing Christianity refuses to obey God, rejecting His authority over them—and remains blind as a result. No amount of trying to understand will unlock God’s purpose to those who will not keep His Law.

This is the Key to grasping the meaning of major prophecies for America and Britain. They are intended for, and will only be understood by, God’s true people. All others will remain in confusion, mangling and misunderstanding the horrific, world- shattering events that will soon directly impact every human being on this planet!
